Google is already rolling out the June 2024 update for its Pixel Watch devices. The update includes the latest security patch and some optimizations. Its general focus is to offer a better user experience with more precise measurements.
The main highlight of the update is the car crash detection for the Pixel Watch 2, a useful safety feature that hopefully you never have to resort to. The update has build number TWD9.240605.001.A1 for all Pixel Watch models. Now, all Google premium wearables are running the “June 5, 2024” security patch.

The update’s official changelog mentions tweaks in three key sections. There are optimizations for “On Wrist Detection,” “Car Crash Detection,” and “Bicycle Fall Detection.”
For “On Wrist Detection,” Google optimized the performance of its smartwatches for skin with tattoos. Regarding “Car Crash Detection,” your watch can detect if you are involved in a traffic accident. It also enables the watch to make calls for help in case the user can’t. This particular feature is available only on the Pixel Watch 2. Also, the Personal Safety app has been updated.
Lastly, the “Bicycle Fall Detection” entry mentions an improved algorithm to detect this type of fall more accurately. This one is also available for the original Pixel Watch. The changelog mentions that multiple system apps for Pixel Watch devices were updated too. You just have to go to the Play Store and download them (in case you do not have automatic app updates enabled).
The post on Google’s blog adds that the rollout begins today, but is being carried out in phases. So, it is possible that you do not have the update available yet. However, according to 9to5Google, disabling Bluetooth while maintaining Wi-Fi from the Connectivity settings of your watch serves as a workaround to “force” the update to arrive. Plus, those who are more tech-savvy can manually install the OTA.
